In Jamaica, we are doing the beach day....in grand cayman, we are doing the snorkeling and sting ray encounter.
First cruise ever!!! You are going to love it. This my 3rd in 14 months.
Tip # 1: Pack lite...don't bring a lot of unecessary stuff. You will find that having to lug stuff around, pay tips to porters, tips to taxi drivers, tips to bellman.....because you brought way too much stuff, gets expensive and causes you to have to wait on others. Let's not forget, you will likely be bringing stuff back with you so, that is just more to carry.
Tip # 2: Cascual clothing...yes, yes...I know, it's a conference but, it's also a cruise and you will see myself and Mike running around in shorts, in training classes, roundtables etc.... because we prescribe to the fact, it's a cruise and I will not be caught dead in a suit and tie. Granted, you might want to do the "formal" night dinner the ship has so, you might need to bring a dress or something if that is something you want to do but, trust me...it isn't all that.
Tip # 3: Comfy shoes. When you go off the ship and are walking around at the excursion or off on your own you will want a good pair of walking shoes...trust me. Many of these places don't have benches or rest stops and you will be doing a lot of standing.
Tip # 4: Early, Early, EARLY! Yes, the boat has a check in time and most everyone will be checking in around that time but, what many people don't know is, you can check in ....very early. Now, you may not be able to get in your room right away but, you can explore the ship, find the shops, locate the theatres and know where everything is, before you even leave the port. Let's not forget, the earlier you get there, the less of a crowd, shoving, pushing and all that hot mess you have to deal with.
Tip # 5: CASH! For many things like tips, you will want to bring cash. Now, granted, most of these tourist traps we find ourselves in on the excursions only want US Dollars, regardeless of the conversion rate so, know in your head what the conversion rate is before you go so that you don't get taken advantage of.
Tip #6: Do the excursions. If you go out on your own...that's fun and all but, you are at the mercy of the local culture, laws and people. When you do an excursion, they pick you up on the dock, take you to the excursion, take you back to the dock when its over. You avoid a lot of the hustle and bustle of these tourist traps trying to sell you everything you don't need, "Hey pretty lady, you need hair beeds...you want hair beeds...I sell you hair beeds for $1.00" ICK!
Tip # 7: DON'T BE LATE - The boat waits for no one.
The rooms are comfortable for 2 adults....any more than that and....well, it gets cramped. Now...I say that but, trust me, you won't be spending much time in the room in the first place....lol. We need to sit down together some time on the cruise because, I really want to hear about how you are working with an attorney. My attorneys don't want no part of short sales......even the bankruptcy attorneys around here run in fear.
Hey Catherine,
I truly believe, based on my experience and personal knowledge of the default real estate industry that no one designation / certification is going to get you business....it's just not. With that being said, I do believe haveing a long list of certfications / designations at the end of your name does show others you are invested in the business. For many people, it's more a badge of honor than it is a entry fee, if you know what I mean. It seems to me that badges of honor go a long way in this industry...a very long way. Granted, some are more prestigous than others but, no one will bring you business on it's own. As for the short sale cruise, I love it.....if for no other reason I get another certification / designation, I learn a little, hell....like you, I could teach these classes and most importantly, I have a freaking blast......ITS A CRUISE FOR GOODNESS SAKE! Not to mention, it's a tax deduction. By the way, I could learn a lot from you. I have been wanting to partner with an attorney on short sales now for years and no one has been able to share a winning strategy with me. Go figure.....lol
