Housing Market Ends Strong in 2014

The Wisconsin housing statistics are in for this December of 2014. Here is an excerpt from what the Wisconsin Realtors® Association (WRA) had to say:

The housing market ended 2014 on a strong note with both existing home sales and median prices higher in December, according to the most recent analysis of the state’s housing market by the Wisconsin REALTORS® Association (WRA). Home sales in December rose by 2.1 percent compared to December 2013, and median prices rose 4.3 percent to $145,000 over that same time frame. For the year, home sales in 2014 were slightly below a very strong 2013 market, down just 1.5 percent; but prices were higher in 2014, up 3.1 percent to an annual statewide median of $148,000.

“Despite a slow start due to harsh winter weather early in the year, 2014 rebounded nicely and ended with an excellent December and a very good final quarter of the year,” said Dan Kruse, chairman of WRA board of directors. Kruse noted the fourth quarter of 2014 was the strongest since 2005.

The Wisconsin housing statistics are in for December of 2013. Here is an excerpt from what the Wisconsin Realtors® Association (WRA) had to say:

2013 was a robust year for Wisconsin’s housing market, with both sales and prices increasing by solid margins, according to the year-end housing report released by the Wisconsin REALTORS® Association (WRA). Existing home sales were up 10.8 percent compared to 2012, and median prices increased 7.2 percent to $143,000 over that same time frame.

“Strong sales dominated 2013, which is remarkable given that this is compared to 2012, which was also a very good year for the housing market,” said Steve Lane, chairman of the WRA board of directors. According to Lane, existing home sales were up in every region of the state in 2013 relative to the previous year.

Lane noted housing sales were strong despite raising interest rates and prices. “Mortgage rates have increased a full percentage point since January, and median prices have grown consistently throughout the year,” Lane said. “Yet the entire state posted genuine gains in 2013, a trend we hope and believe will continue into the new year,” Lane said.

The Wisconsin housing statistics are now in for December of 2011. Here is an excerpt from what the Wisconsin Realtors® Association (WRA) had to say:

"What is encouraging is to see monthly home sales continue to outpace last year's levels," said Rob Keefe, Chairman of the WRA Board of Directors, noting that home sales in December were 11.3 percent higher than December 2010".

"If home sales are to continue to grow, we will need more robust job growth going forward, but a falling unemployment rate is a welcomed sign" said WRA President and CEO Michael Theo.  The [Wisconsin] unemployment rate dropped more than a half percent over the last two months to 7.1 percent in December 2011.
