Locksmith Shot and Killed During Homeowner Eviction in Miami Dade County Today
This is an incredibly sad story with a completely unnecessary and avoidable outcome. Homeowners have options available that allow them to walk away with dignity during these hard times.
I cannot fathom the state of mind and desperation of this homeowner that drove him to shoot and kill a man who was just doing his job.

This is how the story goes according to the police:
A Miami-Dade police officer was trying to evict a resident from his Miami Beach Condo. The police officer knew the homeowner was inside the condo, and he refused to come to the door, the officer called a locksmith.
When the locksmith unlocked and opened the door, the occupant fired gunshots, killing the locksmith. The officer pulled his weapon and shot back, hitting the suspect who was wounded and taken to Jackson Memorial for treatment. The officer was not shot, but was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, including gun powder burns to his eyes, police said.
My thoughts...
As a member of the Real Estate Profession, this story really hurt my heart. Though I don't know the specifics of this eviction, I do know that the majority of homeowners who go thorough the foreclosure process do it completely alone - never seeking help from anyone.
I believe that collectively, we can do a better job reaching out to the community so we help the sellers who are in distress with a short sale. The sellers maintain some control of their future and don't feel completely hopeless against this intimidating and scary process.
Our condolences to the locksmith's family and we wish a speedy recovery to the police officer. Hopefully we don't hear more stories like this in the future.
