Five Star Institute

The Five Star Institute is coming to my area to offer certification courses for both REO and Short Sales. The REO is normally $595.00 and is being offer for $299.00 and the Short sale certification is also $299.00

Im not sure if I want to spend that kind of money in additional certifications. They claim is a designation expected from asset managers. I already have RDC Pro, NABPOP and several other designations.

I thought I turn to this group ask for their infinite wisdom and make this my very first question to ask in this forum. Thank You in advance.

  • just got my REO cert last week in Vegas for the $295.  well worth the $$ although can't say I learned anything I hadn't picked up from experience.  the training manual is very comprehensive and current and recommend you read that outside of class.  I was amazed at how many of the agents were just now trying to get into REO.  afraid that might be wishful thinking with all the experienced agents out there.
  • Hi George,

Where do you live? Or what area you are talking about, that they are coming?

  • Possibly the ONLY designation outside NAR worth having if you are serious about doing REO work.  As the REO inventory continues to be sold off, I believe all those AM companies will be more selective on who they're give the remaining work to.  You'd better be good at your job to be certain.  But if you've got credentials THEY hold value in, you'll get their work.  Notice that they (the AM companies) don't really care what kind of NAR credentials you have bought, otherwise why would these programs be out there?  I'm not a big fan of the Realtor union, apparently they aren't either.  I'll be there!
  • Hi George:

I can tell you that this is a steal compared to what you would pay if you had to go to Texas or California to take these courses. I couple people went with my old broker last year to take these courses in Texas and with the trip fare,Hotel, convention Fee and course fee they spent over $1600.

I am a Board of director For NAHREP and my Broker Daisy L Cid is our President, she is the one that has been able to put this together for our area, nothing like this has been done her before and even I will be taking the REO certification on Monday, hope to see you there.
