What should a Realtor be doing in times like these?

I remember when my Grandmother would go in the kitchen and get a knife to sharpen the other knife...She would rub them together the make them sharp. To my surprise being a child at that time it was amazing how they cut so much better.Saying this to say sharpen your skills by reading the daily market news.In these times I say go back to the books and you might even have a Realtor friend or mentor that you can tag along with who is doing great in the market.Sharpen your skills like my grandmother sharpened her knives.I remember when the market was somewhat like this and I was a newby I would read the market and started signing up with the REO Companies before alot of agents did..So it is wise to see what will be the next big thing in Real Estate and learn it....There are so many free classes at your boards take them and learn from them....Be Blessed,Your Realtor Monica Oakes

  • I heard on the news, some real estate agents are looking for paying jobs and given up on real estate.
  • Ok Carolyn. That is all it is a myth
  • Because of the myth that it is quick money with little work.
  • Ok Johnny....To the point if you are a Real Estate Agent or Realtor and you can't do a BPO why are you in Real Estate?
  • Monica, It's more like..."if you can't do a BPO, why are you in real estate?"
  • You just hit the head with the hammer....Lowell what else can be said....If you can't do a BPO how can you be a REO agent....You know what I'm not to be funny about it but....Guess what if you can't do a BPO how can you give your buyers a Comparative Market Analysis?
    I'm just saying..
    Thanks Lowell
  • Things that make you say Humm Carolyn...You got it down..Agents think it is so easy but when you have 7 48 hrs,72 hrs and some 3 day BPO's or CMA's it is not all that easy.Especially when the address is not correct or anything that will really make you work..Signing up is not all they neede to do.It is called preparation.Like the agent that had all those BPO's and listings.
You will have no problems Carolyn..
  • Unfortunately, many agents are still waiting for that one big break. Some want REO listings but don't want to do BPOs. Others don't know how to pull comps, and then there are those that have tantrums because the productive brokers and agents won't hand them their successful processes on a gold plate. A large number do signup with many companies then site back and wait. They don't understand that you have to massage and nurture some of the banks the same way your nuture a buyer or seller.

The list is a part of the conveniene of not having to spend hours on end looking on the net. Why spend weeks searching the internet and social networking groups for company names when you can spend a reasonable amount (under $30) for a listing of 175+ names?

A large quantity fail to come up with a solid plan and goals while those that are dedicated have grown to become flexible with the market, enhance their skills, and think ---- creative!

I'm no longer amazed at the number of brokers and agents that don't want to communicate with their buyers and sellers. After the contract is signed, you won't see or hear from them until the day of closing when they come to get their commission check.

Beth - LOL. That is part of the myth behind the BPOs and REOs. Some of the agents see how well others are doing and think BPOs and REOs are easy and fast money. What they don't see is the late night hours, early morning research on the computer, missed family and school events, cold dinner, and often missed meals. Once some of them get in to the BPOs, they quickly leave because they can't handle the demands.

I signed up an agent over 8 months ago with over 100 companies. In less than 24 hours, she was getting BPOs and within a couple days, she received over 10 listings. She panicked! Yes, she panicked because she couldn't handle the BPOs. It has been over 8 months and she hasn't had a listing or a buyer client. She was not prepared and she thought the work would have been easy.......NOT!
  • Funny Beth but you know what a lot of agents do this.Pay the money to get listings and still waiting for the listing.
  • Budget???? What's that??? I thought we just paid whatever the new companies want us to pay so we get listings and lots of BPO's!! Remember the Tidal Wave that is supposed to be coming!! HEHEHEH LOL I am just teasing!
