Did you miss 5 Star?

Let start off by telling you that before I decided to go to 5 Star, I was apprehensive about the conference because, I really didn't want to leave my business here in Nashville. Not to mention, the cost was going to be extreme when you calculate, $900.00 for the conference ticket, $350.00 for 3 night hotel stay....and that can vary depending on where you stay, along with at least $200.00 in air fare, $200.00 in rental car, $150.00 in food and drink as well as about 200.00 in entertainment (parties every night)....it adds up to about a $2000.00 trip! However, I have to admit, in my opinion, it was worth it and, soon....each of my REOPro members are going to know why! I am not going to make any announcements in this blog but, you might want to keep an eye on REOPro because, it's about to get hot, hot, hot! Now, back to 5 Star. Granted, 5 Star was crowded.....and that really is an understatement however, I do feel that 5 Star attempted to really control crowds by offering a mixtures of classes during the same time the expo hall was open. The nice thing, the facilities were adequate this year, may have been crowded but, I could always find water or coffee and never had to wait for a bathroom. I never noticed a bathroom line outside any womans facilities either. It was an excelent networking event however, let's face it, the real business wasn't conducted at the conference...it was the parties afterwards and, if you didn't attend a single party after the conference.....you missed at least half the conference. In fact, all the exciting news I have to share, is coming directly from just the parties. Overall, a good event. If I could be so bold to make a suggestion, I would suggest that 5 Star do what they can to attract more exhibitors and more participants for the lender open house.

  • Yeah, club Tsunami had a couple VIP Areas and to be perfectly honest, that is where most the AM hung out so, if you didn't have access to the VIP Areas, then you were going to be waiting to see them come in and out. I was in the VIP area most the night and did occassionally come out to meet friends at the door or even mingle to see who would and woulnd't recognize me.

I can't stress enough, it's the after parties that a lot of connections take place so, be sure you are attending these, they are important. Also, do what you can to get into the VIP sections.
  • Just wanted to Thank you Jesse for putting this site together. Do to the site I was able to connect with some really nice agents whom spent some time with. It was great to share insite on how to grow our businesses. As for the parties...Was at Club Tsunami but did not see you...Played some blackjack. I found out later there was a separate VIP area upstairs for asset and lenders. This was separate from the downstairs VIP area...Would have liked to see it mixed up more.
  • HI Jesse,

It was great to meet you at the Club Tsunami event on Monday night.

I agree with your assessment of the conference and networking events. I made some really good connections in each venue. But I had to push myself out of the "comfort zone" and go meet & greet "strangers." (we all remenber what our mommies said about strangers . . . yikes!). But it was an amazingly positive experience. If I had stayed in the "comfort zone" I might as well have stayed home.

Now I'm trying to figure out if I can get caught-up and ahead enough to hit REOMAC next month too. It's all expensive, but it is a clear investment in business.

Have I become addicted to networking? ee-gads!

    Best of good fortune,

    Clay
  • Jess,
I was also apprehensive about the 5 Star Conference. I received an invite to attend a sesssion with one of my lenders and decided it would be a mistake to miss out.

I attended only one day - quick trip in & out of town. The facility was nice and accomodated a large crowd. I was disappointed in the amount of vendors in the Expo Hall. I attended the day with the Lender Open House. Some rooms were too small to accomodate the crowds. This is a very popular event. More lender participation would be good.

I didn't stay long enough to attend the parties. So I missed out on the extra networking opportunities.

Talking with other agents who have attended the conferences over the last few years, the feedback was positive and they enjoyed this conference more than the others.

I would say, overall a good event. I will spend more time at the next one.
  • Oh Jesse, you are such a tease!

Ok ok, I'll start saving up now for next year. Sounds like I missed a great event. I so wanted to be there but the tooth ferry was mean to me this year!
  • Nope, i wasn't at the 90's bar...I stayed at Phat Daddy's that night. Plus, I was too busy networking, makeing connections and getting deals done to really have a "good" time.

None the less, it's the after parties and private invites that really make these things successful.
  • Hello Jesse-

We had such a great time at 5 star. You're right about networking, we believe we missed about 1/3 of the conference(counting the after parties)
  • Jesse, I couldn't agree more! The classes were good for the most part, with nice little nuggets of wisdom sprinkled through, but I agree the Expo are wasn't quite as robust as I anticipated. For me, the most productive networking for occured at Whiskey & Rye and Mambo's. In regards to the after-hour festivities, I hope that wasn't you at the 90's bar on the last night... he was hurting the next day I'm sure!
  • sorry we did not meet at conference.
  • Jesse,

Looking forward to your next word....Thank you.
