BACKGROUND CHECKS

Hi Everyone!

I was recently completing a BPO for ClearCapital when it prompted me to accept or deny a background check.

It specified I either have the check done or risk not getting any more orders. Plus, it was mandatory and at my expense!

Is this fair?

We get low fees and when we do the work at times we don't get paid!!!

Also...it states that every BPO company was going to make this mandatory and each time we have to pay for a back ground check for each company. One check will not do for all!!

Any thoughts on this??

Thanks,

Sandy Gleicher

  • I have complete background check for ServiceLink few years back because they also said they have a new client, a month after they cut the fee to $30, I stopped working with them. Then CoreLogic requested a background check, mind you from the same company, but they needed a new form. I did that and they have cut the fee too. Now Clear Capital is requesting it, again, from the same company, and they would not accept checks already done for the other 2 BPO companies by the same vendor. Only this time the fee is higher; ServiceLink used to send 100 BPOs a month, CoreLogic about 50 a month, and ClearCapital about 2 a month. Considering that to get a license we go through a really thorough background check with fingerprints, I say this is just a way these companies are making moneys on us and nothing else, especially in the light of them not accepting background checks done previously by the same people.

  • These BPO companies are full of it.  I feel it is utter B.S. that they ask us to pay for background checks and also their bogus BPO certifications with no guarantee of work.

It is time we start standing up for ourselves and stop paying for their B.S.

I am in the process of raising my fees every opportunity I get.  The sad thing is that I know somewhere out there, there is someone who is willing to undercut my fee to get the order.

  • My answer is "I have both FULL Federal and State back ground checks." As a real estate broker I was required to before could even set up a Testing date (Live Scan). If we ever got in trouble for anything (Misdemeanor or Felony) NAR and CAR can take your license or suspend it. I had a buddy who got a DUI and it flagged his license. If our back ground checks that we paid for, to both NAR and the State aren't good enough for these BPO mills then I wouldn't do business with them. Also, MY fee for a BPO is $100 ... I wouldn't get in the car for $35 or 50 bucks !

  • It's enough already. I don't do any work for Clear capital, signed up woth them about 4 years ago and got nothing for 18 months and since then just get emails for assignments way out side my coverage area, but I had a couple other companies tell me I had to pay for a back ground check to keep getting orders from them. I told them to drop me. I have a background check every 3 years for license renewal and that should be enough.

I have cut way back on BPO work. I only do drive bys (don't want to deal with access issues) for 4 companies, three of which I've gotten to increase my fee to $60, I also only accept the easy ones, close to office, plenty of comps, plain vanilla properties with nothing unusual, and only do them on really slow days.

It's barely worth the time to do these anymore and I cannot justify working for the reduced fee, you have to pay for this and that companies.

  • Thanks Charlene and Willy! My sentiments exactly!

  • No and no again to the back ground checks for reo bpo's that are not leading to a listing. Use that time to generate solid leads that can sustain your real estate career. I'm living the same reality as anyone in this business in todays market.

  • As long as you feel your work and professionalism is only worth a pittance, we will be treated as such. I won't work for free. I'm not talking about general real estate sales and listings with owner occupied's or buyers. Stop working for nothing. $20 dollars is laughable for any work I provide for bpo business. At almost $4 bucks a gallon for gas, you are doing something for nothing along with the several hours to complete the assignment.

  • No and no to the background checks. Where is this all coming from? It has to be from way up the chain, the White House per haps?
